Ep. 47 - Breaking Up With Anxiety Around Food

On today’s episode of The Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Podcast, I’m excited to welcome back my therapist, Chantal Wade, who I have been working with since 2016!

I invited Chantal back on the podcast because I wanted to provide a resource for anyone struggling with anxiety around food, emotional relationships with food, and disordered eating. I want to emphasize that I’m not qualified to work with anyone who has a current or history of disordered eating unless they are also working with a therapist at the same time as me.

In this episode, Chantal and I delve into the two main camps of disordered eating:

  • Camp One: The part of us that tries to control through shame, driven by fear of failure, rejection, and abandonment. This control gives us a false sense of safety.
  • Camp Two: The part of us that numbs and distracts, using food to numb emotional pain.

We discuss how disordered eating is not really about food, your body, or what others think of you—it’s a symptom of unhealed emotional wounds.

I hope this episode helps you, and as always, I would love to hear your thoughts! Send me a message on Instagram and let me know what you think of the episodes. I love connecting with you, and if there’s a topic you’d like me to dive into, let me know!
